 Where are we?

                            by Kathrine R Mckay

Trunks yawned. Saturdays were so boring without someone to play with. He was home alone, Vegeta out training somewhere in the woods, and Bulma was shopping. Someone knocked on the door. Trunks opened it, unafraid of strangers; he could easily dispose of them.

Goten stood there, smiling. "Hey, Trunks. Guess what? I heard of this really cool place in the woods.  It's called Witches Grove. They say that on a full moon night, witches come and recruit new people to thier clan. They do all sorts of weird spells and stuff. Wanna go?" he asked.

Trunks smirked. "What, are you gonna ask them to recruit you?" he said. Goten looked crestfallen, but both of them being young children, curiousity got the better of them. That night,
they flew to a clearing in the woods. They landed behind some thick bushes and crouched down in wait. After thirty minutes, Trunks yawned.

"When are they supposed to come?" he asked.

"Midnight. My watch says it's eleven....fourty-six," Goten answered. Midnight came and went, and no witches showed up. Trunks growled.

"This stinks. I'm leaving," he said. He began to float up, but he fell back down. His stomach growled. "I'm too hungry to fly," Trunks explained. Goten tried, but he couldn't fly either. It had been a long time since either of them had eaten. They began walking in the direction they had flew from, but soon got lost.

Goten was on the verge of tears. "What're we gonna do? No one's gonna find us!" he cried. Trunks rolled his eyes.

"Don't worry. My dad's in charge of the discipline, and he's probably so eager to do his job he'll find us no problem," Trunks mumbled. Goten looked at him.

"Ya think?" he asked, his voice trembling.

"Count on it," Trunks reassured. "The real problem is bears and wolves."

Goten smiled. "Don't worry. I'll just blast it to bits," he said defiantly.

Trunks sneered at him. "With your aim? You'd have to be trying NOT to hit the thing to hit it," he teased.

Goten glared at him. "And what about you? You couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if you were two feet away from it!" Goten retorted.

The two friends scowled at each other. Unknown to them, two watchers snickered. "My brat's got a point," one of them said.

"My son seems pretty correct," the other countered.

"Ha! Trunks has better aim then Goten," the first one said.

The other voice snorted. "Sure. And rocks fly," it said.

Trunks' and Goten's  tempers, meanwhile, were wearing thin. Both were suffering from hunger and fatigue, and both were cranky. They began yelling insults at each other. Trunks, coming from a yelling kind of parentage, was winning, since Goten was raised in an enviornment were only Chi chi raised her voice, and she rarely called Goku names. Plus, when she did, Gohan and Goten were way beyond hearing range.

"Ah, shut up! You couldn't find your way out of a barf bag!!" Trunks yelled.

"Oh yeah?! Well, your mom's stupid!!!" Goten yelled back.

The first voice, watching the two, jerked. "Easy. Eeeeaaaaasy. Don't do anything rash," the second voice soothed.

The first voice snarled. "Shut. Up. Kakarott. I'm. Not. In. The. Mood," the first voice growled in a halting voice.

Trunks, losing it, dove at Goten. The two tumbled and rolled, the punches and kicks flying. The first voice snorted in laughter, then chuckled. That chuckle soon grew into a loud and long
laugh. The second voice joined in. The two boys stopped fighting and looked toward the voices. Vegeta and Goku tumbled out of the tree they were hiding in and rolled on the ground
in laughter.

"Daaad! You were there the whole time?!" Goten cried. He ran over and pretended to beat Goku up. Trunks hung back, shuffling his feet. Bulma hated it when Trunks' hot temper (From guess who) caused him to fight with his friends. She urged Vegeta to punish Trunks harshly,
without hitting him.

Vegeta, recovered from his laughter, walked over to his son. Trunks gulped. Goku and Goten were busy, wrestling on the ground, and every one else was miles away. Vegeta stopped a few feet from Trunks, then crossed his arms. He smirked.

"Great job, brat," Vegeta said, then walked away. Trunks stared after him in wonder. He had just averted a major disaster! Trunks exhaled, then collapsed with exhaustion. Vegeta picked him up, made sure no one was watching, and flew home with Trunks in his arms.
